Romans 15:13 (19.05.22)

Romans 15:13 (NIVUK)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Bible has many titles or descriptions for God, the Good Shepherd, Lord of Lords, The Almighty and so on. Many of these we regularly use in our worship. One we don’t use so often is ‘the God of hope’ from Romans 15:13. I love this one! God loves his creation and has good plans for it, plans to renew it, to bring it new life, to fix what was broken in Eden and return paradise and end the tyranny of sin and death. The resurrection is the first taste of this, followed by the work of the Spirit in our lives. We are a people of hope because God is the God of hope!

Lord of all hopefulness,
Lord of all joy,
Whose trust, ever child-like,
No cares could destroy,
Be there at our waking,
And give us, we pray,
Your bliss in our hearts, Lord,
At the break of the day.
