Colossians 3:5,9-11 (NIVUK)
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature… 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
I used to be a student at the City of Ely Secondary School. Like all students, I wore the school uniform, a blazer, shirt, tie and trousers. It would be rather odd, wouldn’t it, if I continued to wear that uniform now I am an adult living a completely different life. Through the resurrection, we are brought into a new life in Christ, the future life of God’s kingdom. In light of this, Paul calls us to put aside our old life, our broken, self-centred and destructive behaviours, and allow ourselves to be renewed and wear behaviour of the new life. Why wear our old uniform, when that life is behind us?!
Thank you Father that you’re renewing my life through the work of the Spirit. Help me today to put on my new life, rather than the habits of the old.
