Psalm 8:3-4 NIVUK
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
How many stars are there in the universe? Scientists estimate 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. That’s 200 billion trillion, or 200 sextillion. The scale of space is mind-blowing, beyond our comprehension. If you want some more figures, take a look at this video: https://youtu.be/MX3PIkbTQwQ. And yet, the Psalmist simply says that God set them in place (3). Space may be immense, but as its creator, God is even more so, he made it, sustains it, and holds it in himself. Does that make you feel small? It should do – and yet, the Psalmist encourages us, God is mindful of us, he does care for us.
Take a moment to contemplate the immensity of God and worship.
