Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Acts 9:36-38 (08.08.22)

Acts 9:36-38 (NIVUK)
36 In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became ill and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, ‘Please come at once!’

Clearly Dorcas was much loved and appreciated by her community. Why was this? We don’t know much about her other than her name. She is remembered simply for following Jesus, doing good and helping the poor. One way she did this was by making and distributing clothes. I don’t know about you though, but I reckon this is a great legacy to be remembered for!

It’s easy for us to overcomplicate things sometimes Father. Help us to remember the fundamentals of faith are simple, we’re to love God and love our neighbours. Spirit, show me something I can do today.
