Psalm 72:12-14 (NIVUK)
12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight.
Psalm 72 looked forward to a coming King. As we celebrate Advent, we can see that this points to Jesus and the kind of leader he would grow up to become. Christmas is not just a nice celebration, it’s about God bringing about justice for the afflicted, needy, and weak, and showing compassion to the oppressed and victims of violence.
Take a moment to reflect on the world today, pray for God’s justice and compassion – and be open to being part of God’s answer.
