1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (NIVUK)
57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
We spent an enjoyable and challenging hour Wednesday night, exploring this chapter in the Bible Study group – I recommend coming along! At the end of this chapter in which Paul explores the centrality of the resurrection to Christian life and faith, is a great promise, perhaps the great promise, that through his life and death and resurrection, Jesus, the Christ, has overcome death and sin and opened the way for God’s Kingdom to come to earth as it is in heaven. This promise means we can live for God now secure in the knowledge that we will be – indeed already are – a part of God’s renewed world, that we will know life beyond death, and God’s presence in this. As we seek to work for God, we do not work in vain.
In this changeable and fragile life and world, it is wonderful to know security in you Christ. We give ourselves to your work.
