Ephesians 1:13-14 (NIVUK)
13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory.
Until recently I wore a wedding ring, and it was only when it snapped(!) recently, meaning that I’m not currently wearing it, that I became aware of how much I fiddled with it. It turns out I was constantly aware of it. This was far from a bad thing, it constantly reminded me that my wife and I love each other and have given ourselves to each other. The Holy Spirit is a bit like that, it is a ring/mark/seal/guarantee/deposit in us that reminds us of our relationship with God and reassures us that we are inheritors of God’s promises of redemption, of being restored and set free.
Spirit, may I be aware of you all day, and reminded constantly of what your presence signifies.
