Hebrews 13:8 NIVUK
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.
This verse might look small but like the TARDIS, it’s much bigger on the inside! It reaches throughout time from creation to the end of this age and beyond, into the ages that follow, and declares that Christ the Son, the exact representation of the Father (Hebrews 1:3), is eternally consistent. As his Father declared to Moses, ‘I Am Who I Am’ (Ex. 3:14). And who is he, what is it that never changes? His character. As the Psalmist declares, ‘8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love’ (Psalm 145:8). God is always the God who breathed his life into us in creation, who washed the disciples feet and his life on the Cross, who will return to bring us justice and make all as new. In this ever-changing world, we can build our lives with certainty on him.
Lord, Father, Son and Spirit, you never change, never waver, are never distracted. You are the only one who is truly consistent and whole. We worship you for the certain hope that we have in you.
