Psalm 147:12-14 (NIVUK)
12 Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;
praise your God, Zion.
13 He strengthens the bars of your gates
and blesses your people within you.
14 He grants peace to your borders
and satisfies you with the finest of wheat.
God is not miserly, says the Psalmist, he grants us peace to our borders. This might seem at first as if it is a nationalistic or ‘racist’ peace – God gives us peace but not foreigners – but this is not what the Psalmist is saying. By talking of borders, he is not saying that God excludes, but that God fills them, and fills them utterly.
Lord, we praise you for your generosity! Thank you for the peace we have found and know in you, and the promise of complete and overwhelming peace to come.
