Matthew 13:33 (NIVUK)
33 He told them still another parable: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about thirty kilograms of flour until it worked all through the dough.’
A question that Simon said in the video on Sunday that he tries to constantly ask himself is, ‘what is it that God wants me to be and to do in this place at this time?’ One of the shortest parables in the Bible is the Parable of the Yeast (or leaven) in Matthew 13. Often in the Bible, yeast has a negative connotation, a corrupting influence that spreads through society. Here, Jesus subverts this, and calls us to be like yeast, spread throughout society, influencing it for good and for Christ wherever we are. Like yeast, our small individual acts of love, spread throughout society, add up to have a dramatic and transformative effect.
Father, what is it that you want me to do today in this place and at this time?
