2 Chronicles 3:1-2 (NIVUK)
1 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite, the place provided by David. 2 He began building on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.

This chapter is full of detail, much of which we skimmed over on Sunday, of which these verses are a good example. These details give the account a real sense of authenticity, and are often included for a specific reason. Take Mount Moriah, for example, why mention this? This is the mountain that where Genesis 22 has God testing Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. That story ends with God reaffirming his promise or covenant with Abraham saying, ‘…through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.‘ (Genesis 22:18). Could the Chronicler be saying that this is just what Solomon is doing through building the Temple?

Father, help us to be obedient so that we too can be a blessing to the world.
