2 Chronicles 3:10-13 (NIVUK)
10 For the Most Holy Place he made a pair of sculptured cherubim and overlaid them with gold. 11 The total wing-span of the cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long and touched the temple wall, while its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the other cherub. 12 Similarly one wing of the second cherub was five cubits long and touched the other temple wall, and its other wing, also five cubits long, touched the wing of the first cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubim extended twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main hall.
Today cherubs are often perceived as cute child like angels flitting around like artistic depictions of Cupid. The scale of these statues gives a different picture, with each having a wingspan of 5 metres. These beings stand as vast golden guardians in the Most Holy Place, guarding the spot where the Ark of the Covenant, the symbol of God’s Presence with his people, will be placed. They are two celestial bodyguards. What an awesome God.
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
