Reading: Psalm 123:3-4
3 Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us,
for we have endured no end of contempt.
4 We have endured no end
of ridicule from the arrogant,
of contempt from the proud.
Thought for Reflection:
It has been said that, ‘Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ History is littered with examples of those who have abused those they have power over in work, families, organisations or in government. Perhaps like the Psalmist you have been at the receiving end of this? The good news of this Psalm is that the saying doesn’t always hold true; God is not like other ‘masters’. The only one with absolute power, he stands true and just, remaining governed by love and grace not greed and self importance.
Prayer:
Thank you Lord for the mercy you show us daily and for your loving kindness.
