Monday 1st July
Reading: Psalm 127:1-2
1 Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labour in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
Thought for Reflection:
Work is a dangerous thing. We can avoid it whenever possible, or let it consume us day and night with its deadlines and demands. Both are wrong. We are made to work as we’re made in God’s image and, as Genesis 1 shows us, work is part of God’s identity. Work goes wrong when we see it as something outside of our spiritual life. To be productive and satisfied in work, be open to him Monday to Friday as well as Sunday, and ask him to guide you in your efforts by his Spirit.
Prayer:
Creator God, help us to make our work our worship as much as our sings and prayers.
