Bible Notes

Bible Reading: Mt. 5:6
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Thought for Reflection:
Occasionally the men of the church would go out bowling together, followed by an eat-all-you-like Chinese buffet. These were always great nights! They also taught me an important life lesson. It doesn’t matter how much Chinese food you eat, somehow half an hour later you’ll be wanting more… Some food, no matter how great it is, simply doesn’t satisfy.

We can hunger after many things in life and like those buffets, although they’re great at the time, soon we find ourselves wanting more. God, however, promises to satisfy us. If we hunger and thirst for a good relationship with him, we will one day be filled – righteousness is not primarily about following rules by being faithful to a relationship. One day we will see him face to face and know him fully and be fully known. Now that’s a buffet to look forward to!

Prayer:
Make Psalm 42:1 your prayer today: ‘As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.’
