Reading: Luke 13:18-19
18 Then Jesus asked, ‘What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.’
Thought for Reflection: Today we have another story about growth, this time the growth of a mustard seed which from small beginnings grows to a miraculous size (I have never seen a mustard plant the size of a tree substantial enough for birds to perch in!) God takes the small, overlooked and undervalued and can use them to make a big impact. What is Jesus talking about here? Himself? Us? Faith? Small acts or good deeds? Perhaps all of the above! Do you ever feel insignificant? Here is a reminder that nothing is too small or unimportant for God to put to use in building his Kingdom. Perhaps, however, there is also a challenge, who or what do we dismiss of being of no value to God?
Prayer: Lord thank you that nothing is beyond your use or value in building your kingdom. Help us to value that which is overlooked or dismissed whether that is ourselves or others.
