Psalm 147:12-14
12 Extol the Lord, Jerusalem;
praise your God, Zion.
13 He strengthens the bars of your gates
and blesses your people within you.
14 He grants peace to your borders
and satisfies you with the finest of wheat.
These verses aren’t a rallying cry for tighter border control – don’t forget these were more violent times when invasion from surrounding tribes and peoples was a constant risk. Instead they are a celebration of the peace that their experiences had taught them was not due to their strength, but God’s protection, provision and salvation. Security and fruitfulness come not through what we do, but what God does for us and through us, and we are wise not to forget this.
Thank you Lord for the contentment and freedom that we have in you!
