Psalm 106:1-3 (NIVUK)
1 Praise the Lord
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures for ever.
2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord
or fully declare his praise?
3 Blessed are those who act justly,
who always do what is right.
Do you ever find in worship that you don’t have the words to describe God? You start with great, marvellous, mighty, awesome, wonderful, but nothing really does him justice – it either sounds a little pretentious or just too dull! The Psalmist hits the nail on the head, who can fully declare his praise – our language can’t do him justice. Ironically, that’s just what he’s looking for from us. Although he desires our praise, words are meaningless on their own, insufficient and simply sounds made in the air. It takes our lives to give them meaning, how we treat others is a reflection of how we see him. Justice is worship.
Father, help me by your Spirit to treat those around me with dignity and fairness, not overlooking or oppressing, but valuing and serving, just as Jesus did.
