Galatians 3:26-29 (NIVUK)
26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Can you imagine a world where these is no division of any kind? Where our differences aren’t cause for hatred or fear or suspicion. Can you imagine a world where prejudice is over turned? Where tolerance isn’t practised, not because it isn’t important, but because it isn’t relevant as there isn’t an underdog or second class or ignored? This is how God’s Kingdom will look, and how we as the church are called to live – finding unity in our baptism and the indwelling of the Spirit rather than grouping around others who share the labels that we apply to ourselves and not to others.
Spirit, reveal my prejudices and give me the courage to see beyond them.
