Psalm 113:7-9 NIVUK
7 He raises the poor from the dust
    and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
8 he seats them with princes,
    with the princes of his people.
9 He settles the childless woman in her home
    as a happy mother of children.
Praise the Lord.

Now there’s an intriguing political statement. God seeks equality amongst all people, but to achieve this he doesn’t reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator, spreading power and wealth so all are poor, but instead lifts up the least to the level of the highest. This should challenge our giving to others. Thinking back to the shoebags, the temptation is to give the cheapest of everything, when God gives the best, wine, not water.

Lord, help me to be lavish in my generosity rather than having a no frills budget brand of love.
