Proverbs 27:14
If anyone loudly blesses their neighbour early in the morning,
it will be taken as a curse.
Reading this made me smile! I may have mentioned before a friend I did mission work with. We’d be kipping on the floor of our host, and he would leap to his feet when the alarm went off, bright as anything, with the cry, “Praise the Lord!” For that brief moment, we all hated him… (It didn’t last though.) It is a searching verse, however, pertinent when we think about mission. How can we make our outreach relevant and interesting to our neighbours rather than doing things because they suit us or appeal to us? What do our lives and behaviour communicate to those around us?
Father, help me by your Spirit, to be a good neighbour as your Son called us to be.
