Luke 24:30-32 NIV
[30] When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. [31] Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him, and he disappeared from their sight. [32] They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
I wonder how often our hearts “burn within us” as the Holy Spirit takes Gods word and sets it on fire in our hearts! This is a great way to read the bible – to expect God to speak and to be willing to change as we listen. These two disciples were transformed by listening to the risen Lord Jesus – we can follow their example!
Master, speak! Thy servant heareth,
Waiting for Thy gracious word,
Longing for Thy voice that cheereth
Master, let it now be heard.
I am list’ning, Lord, for Thee;
What hast Thou to say to me?
