Acts 2:1-2
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
Wind is highly symbolic in the Bible. Genesis begins with the Spirit brooding over the earth – the word for Spirit is ruach, the same as wind and breath. A few verses later, God breathes (that word again) life into Adam. In John’s Gospel, the resurrected Jesus appears to his disciples and breathes on them, symbolic of a rebirth, and here, that powerful Spirit/wind/breath of God descends on the disciples. Through Jesus, God is making the world and us anew.
Holy Spirit, blow, breathing new life into me and through me!
