Luke 2:48-49 NIV
When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked.
Having found Jesus back at the Temple and asked why he had stayed there, causing them such distress, Jesus answers their question with another, ‘Why were you searching for me?’ The question is never answered, we have to imagine what they might have said. But the question leaps of the page to us as well, why are we searching for him?
