Matthew 11:25-27 NIVUK
25 At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 ‘All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
John the Baptist wasn’t sure if Jesus was the one. The people of his generation said he didn’t match their expectations. The surrounding towns rejected him. And yet ‘little children’ (does he literally mean children here, or his ‘simple’ disciples?) did. Jesus warns us here to find out who the Father is by coming to Jesus and letting him reveal him, rather than coming with preconceived ideas into which we try to mould God or judge him.
Thank you Jesus for coming to show us your Father. Help us Spirit to have eyes to see and ears to listen.
