Matthew 19:22-26 NIV
When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. [23] Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. [24] Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” [25] When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” [26] Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
The thing is, this could be rewritten with all sorts of alternatives to riches – anything that comes between us and our faithfulness to God and neighbour. It could be our jealousy about our time, it could be our laziness, it could be our ambitions, it could be our …[insert your own weakness here]. We are broken, fallen, incapable of living the faithful life that God calls us to. We all need someone to help us enter and live in a relationship with God, we cannot do it on our own. None of us can.
Thank you Father that you are faithful when we are not!
Thank you Jesus that faithfulness is big enough to cover the gaps in ours.
Spirit, teach us to be more faithful.
