Genesis 2:1-3 NIV
Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. [2] By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. [3] Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
We don’t tend to make such a thing of Sunday being a day of rest and a day set aside for God these days. The 24/7 world we live in makes having a shared day when we all stop together difficult. That said, I think it is important for us to try and keep such punctuation where we can – it is important for our physical and mental health to have a regular time of rest and reflection so that we can make space for our relationships with each other and God and his creation, and appreciate what we have done and been part of in the previous days. I for one know that if I lose too many of my days off, I become dull and inefficient and no good to anybody, including God!
Father, it is the weekend coming. Help us all to find some space to stop and look back and be able to say ‘it was good’.
