The Ninth Day of Christmas
Matthew 2:12-13 NIV
And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. [13] When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
Egypt and a paranoid king seeking the death of new born boys to prevent them from challenging his claim to the throne – sound familiar? Matthew intended it to. His readers will have immediately thought of Moses, placed as a baby into a basket in the river to escape the clutches of Pharaoh. Moses who led his people to freedom and into a relationship with God. Is he saying that Jesus is a new and greater Moses, come to lead us into a relationship with God?
Father God, we turn to you for our safety and security.
