Psalm 91:4-6 NIV
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. [5] You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, [6] nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
The castle/military imagery continues in these verses with God’s faithfulness being our shield and rampart. But juxtaposed upon this is a very different image, that of God being like a bird caring for its young. God’s strength and power is found not in brute force but compassion and vulnerability, a parent caring for their child.
Father. We place ourselves, our families and our communities in your care.
