2 John 12
[12] I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
John was hoping to do what we would all love to be able to do just now, to visit those he cared about, in particular this group of believers to whom this short letter was written. He wanted to encourage them (verses 4 to 6) and to warn them of dangers they needed to be aware of (verses 7 to 11). Ideally he would have spoken to them face to face. But he couldn’t go to them yet. So instead he wrote to them. If telephones had been invented no doubt he would have called them, or perhaps he would have contacted them by email or social media. Let’s use whatever means are available to us to keep in touch and support one another, as best we can, so that there is still a level of fellowship which gives the result that “our joy may be complete”.
Spirit, who needs my encouragement today?
