John 20:26-27 NIV
A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” [27] Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
The resurrection is astonishing, incredible, unbelievable, let’s face it, dead people don’t get up and walk again. Let’s not rush to condemn Thomas for not believing – let’s face it, honestly, would you? Notice what Jesus doesn’t do in response. He doesn’t snub Thomas, nor does he rebuke him. Instead he appears to him in this miraculous way. God understands that faith is hard and appreciates that sometimes we will all struggle to grasp the truth about him, ourselves and his world and ways.
Father, thank you for your faith in us! Spirit, help us to nurture and encourage faith, like Jesus, rather than rush to dismiss those who don’t get it (including ourselves!)
