John 10.27-30
[27] My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. [28] I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no-one will snatch them out of my hand. [29] My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no-one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. [30] I and the Father are one.’
In his gospel, John repeatedly recalls Jesus’ words of assurance, that those who trust in him are eternally secure. They have eternal life, and in case we are unsure what that means he then says that they shall never perish. No-one can take that away from us, no-one – nobody, nothing – because God is greater than everything else and everyone else. We are his sheep, he is the good shepherd, and so we are utterly and absolutely safe.
In an ever-changing world, it is good to know that we are secure in you Lord, our Rock.
