Romans 7:18-20 NIV
…I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. [19] For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. [20] Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
It was a relief to read these words for the first time and realise I’m not alone. Everyone else looks and seems sorted, but I know I’m not. But it’s an illusion, under the surface we all battle with how we live. Maybe being honest about this is an important part of the life of those who follow Jesus – we are not him, and that’s why we follow him, not because we’re good enough, but because he is and we rely upon him.
Thank you Jesus that you gave and give yourself for me, despite of and because of this battle inside.
