Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 Kings 3:8-10 & Luke 18:40-41 (04.08.20)

1 Kings 3:8-10 NIV Solomon’s request:
[8] Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. [9] So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” [10] The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.

Luke 18:40-41 NIV
[40b When he came near, Jesus asked him, [41] “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

Imagine – God asking you what you want!!! Solomon had a great vision for the job that God had given him and realised he could not do it on his own, so he asked God for wisdom to do what he felt was impossible. God loves being asked for stuff that helps us walk with him!
The blind man had a really simple request – “I want to see”. God loves being asked for the difficult, impossible things that only he can answer. Just as a child asks their parents for all sorts of things so God delights in you so don’t be afraid to ask! He loves you enough to say no if you ask for something that will not help you but he is powerful enough to say yes when we share his heart!

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that thou art –
Thou my best thought, by day or by night;
Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
