Romans 5:1-3 (NIV)
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. Here’s a strange statement, ‘we glory in our sufferings’! What does this mean, that suffering is a good thing, or that in someway we find pleasure in it? No, that would be perverse. Suffering is not good. So why does Paul say we glory in it? Because out of suffering can come good. Again this sounds strange doesn’t it, but the word glory brings a scene to mind, of a man dying on a Cross, enduring pain and death and separation. That was not good, but through dying in our place this man demonstrated his love for us and achieved our salvation.
Teach me to love even if it costs, inspired by Jesus.
