James 5.7-8
7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.
While we wait for the implementation of medical research to bring an end to the threat of coronavirus, we need to be patient – we haven’t reached the end of this pandemic yet. But the seeds have been sown, thank God, and we look forward to the harvest in due course. James reminds us that there is something much bigger to look forward to, the return of our Lord Jesus; but we have to be patient. The church has been waiting for 2,000 years, and I wouldn’t dream of guessing how much longer it will be before Jesus comes again. But he will come – that is more certain than the end of the virus pandemic!
Lord Jesus, help us to stand firm patiently, and to look forward to your glorious appearing.
