1 Samuel 8:19-22
19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”
21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the Lord. 22 The Lord answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”
Yesterday we thought about how sometimes God withholds what we ask for because it is not good for us as was the case with their desire for a king. Sometimes, however, having warned us, he grants our request. Here God doesn’t say why he gives in to his people’s request. I wonder, is it because they’re simply not listening to him, and so he yields and waits for them to come to their senses, hoping they learn from their mistake and return to him like the Prodigal Son?
Is there an area in which you have ignored God’s advice or guidance? Perhaps now is a good time to put this right.
