Reflections on God’s Mother Love
After celebrating Mothering Sunday on Sunday, this week our reflections come from scriptures that portray God’s ‘mother love’.
Hosea 11:3-4
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms;
but they did not realize
it was I who healed them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed them.
I remember this stage with my own children, that backbreaking period of walking bent double so they could hold your hands and learn to walk themselves. As toddlers we don’t realise or question the commitment of our parents to us, the time and effort spent, nor what is put aside to do this. To a toddler, parents simply exist for their benefit. They are there to serve you, and it is only as adults that we realise the extent of what has been given and given up for us. As our heavenly parent, this is what God has done for us…
As a child, I only know in part what you have done for me Lord, and the extent of your love, but through human parents I’ve caught a glimpse. Thank you.
