Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

1 Samuel 12:22-25 (22.04.21)

1 Samuel 12:22-25
22 “…For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own. 23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. 24 But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 25 Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will perish.”

God was pleased to choose us. It’s not like someone picking their sports team who has no choice but to begrudgingly pick the last person left on their turn. God was pleased to choose us. Isn’t his love wonderful!
God is faithful when his people are unfaithful. He will not let us go, despite our failings. Isn’t his grace wonderful!
But there is a sting in the tail of this passage. Our actions have outcomes, our choices consequences set in motion through them. God’s love and grace do not protect us from our choices, so we still need to act with care and wisdom – besides, surely we want to live God’s way, through the knowledge that it is the best way and most importantly because we want to out of response to the love and grace we have experienced.

Father we celebrate your astonishing love and grace, and commit ourselves to living for you.
