Proverbs 9:10-12
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For through wisdom your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
To live a healthy and good life, we’re often told we need to ensure we exercise regularly and have a healthy diet. On Sunday, Dzifa outlined a number of important qualities that leaders should have, which are of value for all of us. The first was an understanding of God’s laws and ways. This is what the Old Testament often calls ‘wisdom’. Proverbs tells us that wisdom is key to living a fulfilled and successful life. Where does this wisdom come from? Reading the Bible obviously, but also through a relationship with Jesus – when John calls Jesus the Word, he’s bringing together both a Gentile idea of the spark of life, or force, with the Jewish idea of Wisdom. To be healthy, eat your vegetables, go for a walk and get to know Jesus!
Spirit, help us to deepen our relationship with Jesus this week.
