1 Timothy 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
So often as a nation these days we are quite cynical about our leaders – I am as guilty as most of poking fun at them. There’s no doubt they aren’t perfect, but there again, nor are we! These verses from Paul in 1 Timothy maybe act as an antidote to our negativity and provide a more positive way of responding to them, not ignoring their failings, but instead giving God thanks for them and praying that he will guide and enable them.
Who has authority in your life? Could be anyone from a manager at work to the Prime Minister! Give thanks for them and pray for God to be at work in and through them.
