Psalm 122:6-7
6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
For the Israelites, there was no sacred/secular divide, no separation between public life and personal devotion, faith and politics. Their faith was the lens through which they saw everything. Sometimes, I fear, we turn faith into a private, Sunday matter, that does not overlap with the rest of week. Try praying this Psalm and swapping Jerusalem for Wormley, Turnford, Broxbourne or Nazeing. For walls, perhaps roads or streets? Citadels could become houses? Or shops? Or… What would peace and security look like in our Borough? What needs to change? What are the threats to it?
