1 Samuel 17:25-26
25 Now the Israelites had been saying, “Do you see how this man keeps coming out? He comes out to defy Israel. The king will give great wealth to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his family from taxes in Israel.” 26 David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
On Sunday morning we thought about the story of David and Goliath. The threat of Goliath reveals one area of David’s heart that has been hidden to us previously, although not to God. Whilst the Israelites are trying to encourage people to take him on by appealing to their greed and the promise of a comfortable, privileged life, David’s concern is not with his own well being, but God’s reputation. He wants God to be glorified rather than being seen as an object of ridicule.
Father, may we be quick to spot opportunities to bring you glory today.
