Romans 8:22-25
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

I’m writing this just after England have scored in the opening minutes of the Final. It’s great that we’re currently winning, but that’s not the hope. An early goal isn’t the objective, the objective, the hope, is that we go on to win. The Bible has a lot to say about hope. There is much that is good about our world and life, but this isn’t our hope. Our hope is in God’s kingdom in all its fullness, in a world made new, restored. Hope sees and appreciates what is good in the now, but it doesn’t settle there, through faith it sees what could be and strives towards it.

Father thank you for the prize that was won last night, and the even greater prize that is yet to be / Father, it was a shame that England didn’t win last night, but we enjoyed the journey. We may not have won that prize but we know there is an even greater prize to come (delete as applicable)
Help me to play my part and strive towards it!
