Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Genesis 1:27-28 (13.09.21)

Genesis 1:27-28
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

God made us in his image, to be like him, to reflect his character and qualities in our lives. When he made us, he also gave us the command to subdue the earth and rule over it’s wildlife. The words subdue and rule sound hard don’t they, cruel even perhaps, but perhaps that’s because we’re thinking of how humans can behave when they have power. How does God rule? What might we reflect that in our lives?

Jesus described himself as a good shepherd. Help us Spirit to protect and care for our planet, and in doing so be like him.
