1 John 1:1-3
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
I got to meet my guitar hero Brian May once. It was ridiculous. I always swore I’d never be one of those fans who find when they meet a celebrity that they lose the ability to speak. I did. And yet, did you read today’s passage properly? We are not just in the presence of God, but in fellowship with him! How can it be that we read that so effortlessly. If ever there was a time to be tongue-tied, that’s it. We are in fellowship with God! Astonishing!
The greatest gift we have is you Lord, that the one who made us, that the Father and Son who rule over the heavens and the earth should be our father and brother. Astonishing!
