1 John 1:8-10
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
The coming of Jesus forces two choices upon us. Either we accept who the Bible says he is and what it says he says about us, or we reject it. If we accept it, we do so humbly as this means our recognising that he came because of our brokenness and self-centredness. This acceptance leads to forgiveness and being lifted up, it is a positive step! If we reject this diagnosis, then we reject him, reject what he offers us, and, as the passage strikingly makes clear, demonstrate that we don’t believe what he has to say.
Jesus, we chose you!
