Bible Notes

1 John 2:12-14 (22.10.21)

1 John 2:12-14 (NIV)
12 I am writing to you, dear children,
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.

14 I write to you, dear children,
because you know the Father.
I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.

Over this week we have reflected on how these verses demonstrate the inclusive nature of God’s family, a family that includes all generations and levels of spiritual maturity; children, fathers and young men are welcome, as are mothers and young women. But I wonder if you spotted how the family is brought about? It is created through the work of God the Family (no, that’s not a typo), the Family of: the Father who is from the beginning (13); the Son in whose name we are forgiven (12); and the Spirit, the word of God who lives in us (14). Being a united, inclusive family is a reflection of God himself, in whose image we are being made.

Father, Son and Spirit, united in will and love, may we reflect you as we live and work together in praise of you and out of love for our neighbour.
