Serving Jesus in Our Community

Bible Notes

Luke 10:1-4 (02.11.21)

Luke 10:1-4
1 After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. 4 Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

Our Conference speaker spent some time exploring this chapter and how Jesus taught his followers evangelism. He pointed out that these 72 are unnamed, they are not the celebrity Christians, the leaders of their field, but everyday disciples like you and I. They work in pairs, to support and encourage each other. And they’re to take nothing with them. This is partly to develop their reliance and trust in God, but maybe more importantly so that they spend time with and amongst those they’re going to, rather than dipping in and out. What can we do to spend time with those in our local communities? How can we develop proper relationships with them?

Here’s a thought. Prayerfully consider one person you’d like to build a relationship with and share the good news about Jesus with. Then find someone in church and pray with each other for the two people you’ve identified.
