Luke 10:17-20
17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”
18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus sends the 72 out with these simple instructions to make relationships, share his love, and focus on sharing the good news with those that respond warmly to this. Sometimes we can be nervous about evangelism, but my experience of following these steps and sharing our faith from within the context of a relationship, is that although sometimes people aren’t interested, they rarely react in an aggressive way, nor does it spoil a friendship. More than that, however, as Jesus is pointing out here, when we share his good news in this way, we do so from a position of spiritual power and strength – God is with us and his Holy Spirit works in and through us! We don’t need to be nervous but can expect results.
Holy Spirit, work through me today!
